Easter Island, Day Tour – Te Pito Kura

One of the last sites we visited only had one Moai. This guy is special as he is the largest Moai successfully erected on an Ahu. He once stood over 10 metres tall and since been toppled. This big fellow concludes the history lesson portion of Easter Island.

I lied, one more little interesting historical tidbit... Worthy of note were the little stone shelter type things littered around the place. Upon quizzing our tour guide, we were informed that these were used as chicken coops! Go figure…
John (fellow Melbournian tourist) puts into perspective how big the chicken coop really is.

That night I wondered down to restaurant Haka Hanu overlooking the water. It was wonderful sipping on a cold glass of white watching the local surfers do their stuff. Dinner was octopus & sweet potato salad, fresh, very different, but very tasty.
